I'm just going to reflect on the first month of this class since this is my first post like this. This class is challenging, that's for sure! I am a person who would rather throw all technology out the window, run into the woods and just live outdoors forever. The wild in me, and me in the wild. Not necessarily, but I am going through a steep learning curve with having to use blogging, Pinterest, website-making, etc. This semester also started at 100mph for me, so the whole "getting ahead" thing... yeah, not working out so far. I plan to, oh yes, I plan to. But we'll see how that goes come week 14. Hopefully extra credit stuff like this will help!
I don't want to seem like a negative Nancy, though. I am loving the writing aspect of this class. I enjoy writing a lot, actually. No, not professionally or as a grammar Nazi or anything. Just writing. Words are powerful! I am not sure who came up with the saying, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Bull. Words have the power to tear down or build up. Let's do our best to make it the latter, can we?
So to whomever is reading this, if anyone, or maybe even to myself as I write this: You. Are. Incredible. I don't need to know who you are to say that, because I have a hunch that everyone has something good to give. So take heart, you are a world-changer. Be yourself and contribute to this crazy world, everyone else is taken and we need a little more of you, anyway!
This past week I got to eat at Vast on the top of the Devon Tower for a petroleum conference!

I really like your point of view. It would be nice if all of us could be kinder and do more good in the world today. I try to live by that code everyday. In addition, I totally agree about having a high learning curve in this class. I have never blogged, created a website or anything like that. The only media outlet that I use regularly is FaceBook. Who has time for Pinterest and all those wonderfully, creative suggestions on there? I have 6 kids (ranging from age 28 to 4 yrs) and I will be adopting my next grandchild this coming August. I don't have time for much of anything, but showering and brushing my teeth most days. The weekends are where I try to catch up on all the homework I have due, so yeah, not much of a social life either. What was it like getting to eat at Vast? I've never heard of that restaurant before, so it sounds very interesting. Good luck to you on trying to get ahead in this class. I've been trying to "get ahead" for weeks now. Lol Take care and I hope your plan to get ahead comes to fruition soon!
ReplyDeleteHey Avery! This was so encouraging! Thanks for those words at the end!
ReplyDeleteI love that you commented on the power of words because this class is ALL about words! We have never met anyone from this class in person and we rely solely on words to drive our interactions. You are right that words have incredible power!! I mean GREAT power! I keep thinking about Genesis and how God spoke and the world was formed. Words can be used to build people up or tear them down (just like you said). From what I know of you, you do a wonderful job of using this power of words to build people up and encourage them. :)
Hey Avery,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. This class is challenging but only because I procrastinate. It has made me reconsider technology. When you run into the woods, take me with you. I will bring the food! I am glad that you can see your shortcoming earlier versus later in the semester. I have learned a lot from this class, which is surprising. I thought I was an expert on Pinterest. Lol. Keep up the good work. I hope that you finish strong this semester.
